Improv activities help teams identify implicit attitudes and behaviors and make them explicit values and norms. An improv troupe has no idea what they’re going to do when they get on stage, but they know exactly how they’re going to do it. That’s because everyone in the troupe knows the rules before they perform. All communities create their own magic circles where people and things take on new meanings. This session demonstrates a process where a facilitator assists a team to identify their own magic circle. This session play tests an activity that consists of three steps: (1) explain the method behind improvisational acting, (2) play improvisational games and perform instant analysis where team values are identified, (3) and a breakout session where values and norms are made explicit by participants and the group recreates their magic circle.
This session requires some light physical activity.
Learning Goals:
Attendees will learn how to use improv games to help a team identify their values and critically analyze them.
